Solid Waste Management

Waste-management is one of the topmost crisis that Bangalore is facing, in spite of number of measures taken up by BBMP. If the waste produced can be managed in its ward level itself; then lot of pressure can be reduced. Based on the simple principle that, “one persons waste can be a raw material for other.” If the waste produced can be diverted towards the respective sectors, on one hand pressure on waste-management is reduced at an extra capital is added.
As a key response to this crisis our team along with SFD has come up a innovative solution of creating self-sustainable wards. Which includes-
Collection of data on type of wastes produced in the given area and quantity of each type of waste produced
Studying the type of establishments out there, and relating there role in waste management
Making necessary mutual agreements or MOUs, with both producers and consumers.
Driving out the plan by efficient monitoring.
Of which collection of data was a major task and is completed experimentally in Rajajinagar 99 ward. As the data pertaining to residential wards was available readily with the courtesy of BBMP. We set out for the detailed collection of data on commercial establishments which are the major stake holders of the waste generation .Which was done in a detailed and systematic matter. The data was collected and categorized into 19 primary and 72 secondary categories based on the type of waste generated by them, having total of 1468 commercial entities. Our future views are on creating self-sustained wards giving out zero or least waste out of it.
